"He shoots, He scores!" We live for that phrase. It sends shivers up my back just to hear it!

Now you would assume that shooting a puck is easy. But let me tell you, it isn't. It takes a lot of work.

Whether it's the powerful slap shot, the tricky tip shot, or even the deceptive snap shot, players are always trying to find a way to get the puck past the goalie and into the net.

Of all the shots, however, none is more effective than the wrist shot, but don't blink or you may miss it. The advantage of the wrist shot is its quick delivery giving it the element of surprise.

Former NHL All-Star, Joe Sakic, had one of the best wrist shots in hockey. Joe had the ability to roof a quick wrist shot into the top corner of the net before the goalie even had a chance to move.

At 5 foot 11 and 195 pounds, Joe, did not have the biggest body frame in the NHL. However, with his speedy wrist shot he was able to attain 1641 career points.

Joe, used his wrist shot to propel him to 13 All Star appearances, two Stanley Cups, and an Olympic gold medal for team Canada in 2002.

Other NHL greats that mastered the wrist shot include; Paul Kariya, Mark Recchi and Alex Mogilny.

Of course, using the wrist shot takes a lot of practice and hard work, but it pays off in the end when you see the puck pass the goal line.

Now you may still be skeptical as to whether the wrist shot will really help you hit the net more often.

Well don't take my word for it: squeeze a rubber ball to strengthen your wrists, try it out and see if you start putting up numbers like Joe.

Meet Peter Puck

About Peter Puck

This country is dominated by hockey. It's who we are. It's what we do. It's what we know. It's Our Game.

In 1974, on CBC's Hockey Night in Canada, an impish, animated puck shot its way into our hearts. Peter Puck's cheerful tone took us through the basics of the game, icings, power plays and penalties. And we loved every episode.

Now he's back ... with a twist!

Beginning Saturday, Oct. 3, Peter Puck animated cartoons will return to Hockey Night in Canada as part of Scotiabank Hockey Tonight. This all-new 26-part series will focus on interesting and unique stories of players and remarkable moments in hockey.
