The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League has postponed Thursday’s game between the Shawinigan Cataractes and the P.E.I. Rocket to allow players afflicted with the flu to recover.
It is the second time in as many weeks that the H1N1 virus has forced the league to alter its schedule.
In a statement, QMJHL commissioner Gilles Courteau said the delay would "give … [the league] an opportunity to appropriately evaluate the situation while giving the Cataractes’ players afflicted with the flu virus more time to get better."
The decision was made following the recommendation of the league’s chief physician Dr. Sylvain Boutet, Courteau said.
The QMJHL was forced to cancel the Moncton Wildcats’ games last week after two of the team’s members developed the H1N1 virus and several other members exhibited similar symptoms.
The game between the Cataractes and the Rocket at the Charlottetown Civic Centre has been postponed until Saturday. The game will start at 7 p.m.
