FIRST STAR: Brendan Witt, N.Y. Islanders

The shutdown defenceman helped the Islanders win their fourth in a row, a 3-1 decision at home against Edmonton, with the first two-goal game of his 14-year, 862-game career. Witt snapped a 1-1 tie early in the second period and added another goal midway through the second period. The game-winner was only the second of his career and first since his rookie season in 1995-96.

SECOND STAR: Drew Doughty, Los Angeles

Is there a spot for the Kings defenceman on the Canadian Olympic blue-line along with Duncan Keith, Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Shea Weber and others? The 19-year-old is making a strong bid. He already has three game-winners in his 96-game NHL career, including one against Phoenix in the Kings 5-3 come-from-behind win on Monday.

THIRD STAR: Mike Richards and Jeff Carter, Philadelphia

With Simon Gagne and Danny Briere out with groin injuries, Richards and Carter were solid in their absence with two goals and an assist apiece in the Flyers 6-2 victory against Tampa Bay. The two Philadelphia forwards will need to continue their fine play because Gagne will have surgery on Tuesday and is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks.
