Former NHL MVP Peter Forsberg is making a comeback with the Swedish national team for the Karjala Cup.

Sweden coach Bengt-Ake Gustafsson says Forsberg will join the team for the Euro Hockey Tour event starting Thursday.

Forsberg won two Stanley Cups with the Colorado Avalanche and was the league MVP in 2003. He's only played sporadically over the last two seasons because of an ailing right foot.

The last time he played with the national team was in the 2006 Olympic final against Finland, when he set up the final goal in the 3-2 victory.

Forsberg said in a statement that it was "fun to be in the national team again."

Sweden opens against the Czech Republic in the Karjala Cup, while Finland plays Russia.
