The Ottawa Senators' Jesse Winchester (18) is squeezed by the Florida Panthers' Steven Reinprecht (27) and Cory Stillman (61) during a pre-season game in Ottawa. (Fred Chartrand/Canadian Press)Ottawa Senators forward Jesse Winchester has been assigned to the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton, general manager Bryan Murray announced Friday.
It's a two-week conditioning assignment, Murray said.
Winchester, 26, hasn't played yet this season, after suffering a right knee injury during a 2-1 preseason loss in Montreal on Sept. 18.
But he is expected to be in Binghamton's lineup Friday night against the Syracuse Crunch.
Winchester, of Long Sault, Ont., signed with the Senators as an undrafted college free agent on March 24, 2008. He has appeared in 77 NHL games, recording 18 points (three goals and 15 assists) while registering 35 penalty minutes.
Winchester spent four years with the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association’s Colgate University Red Raiders, where he was the team’s captain in his senior year of 2007-08. He made his NHL debut in the Senators’ 4-0 defeat at Boston on March 29, 2008.
