The Dallas Stars and forward Loui Eriksson have agreed to a six-year contract extension worth $25.5 million, keeping the Swede with the club through the 2015-16 season.

"We are very pleased that we were able to agree to this long-term contract extension with Loui," said Dallas general manager Joe Nieuwendyk.

"He is a big part of our present and future and we feel his potential is just scratching the surface. Loui made great strides in his game last season and he has continued to impress as one of our best players in training camp."

Eriksson, 24, played in all 82 games last season with the Stars where he led the team in goals with 36, plus/minus (+14) and takeaways (80), and ranked second in points (63), behind Mike Ribeiro.

Eriksson's 36 goals were the most by a Star player since Brett Hull scored 39 in 2000-01.

The native of Goteborg, Sweden was the club's second-round selection (33rd overall) in the 2003 NHL entry draft and recently won a bronze medal with Sweden at the 2009 World Championships.

The left-winger is expected to be a top candidate to skate for Sweden at the Winter Olympics next February in Vancouver.

This is the second contract extension for a Stars player in as many days. On Thursday, the Stars agreed to terms with defenceman Stéphane Robidas on a four-year $13.2 million extension.
