An interesting experiment is about to take place in Edmonton, where the Oilers decided against making sweeping changes to a roster that missed the playoffs.

Rather than turn over the players, GM Steve Tambellini and president Kevin Lowe brought in a new coaching staff led by Pat Quinn and top assistant Tom Renney, hoping the veteran bench bosses can get more out of Edmonton's youngsters than the fired Craig MacTavish.

The big change comes in goal, where Nikolai Khabibulin replaces departed workhorse Dwayne Roloson. On forward, journeyman Mike Comrie returns for a second stint in Edmonton, hoping to recapture his glory days.
