Lightning goalie Antero Nittymaki makes a glove save on Ottawa's Milan Michalek during the first period in Regina on Monday. (Troy Fleece/Canadian Press) Mike Fisher and Jason Spezza each had a goal and an assist as the Ottawa Senators posted a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday in Regina.
Fisher opened the scoring three minutes into the game when he converted a pass in the slot from Peter Regin to the top-shelf behind Tampa's Antero Nittymakki.
It was Fisher's league-leading fourth goal of the pre-season and was watched by the 6,450 fans in attendance.
"Obviously Regina, they don't get to see this type of hockey too often so it's good to interact with some of the fans and see family and some of the guys from the Western (Hockey) League," Fisher said.
Tampa Bay's Carter Ashton tied the game four minutes into the second period before Alex Kovalev scored just over three minutes later for what would stand as the game-winner.
Kovalev was forced to leave the game early in the third after taking a stick to the face from Tampa Bay's James Wright. However Kovalev did return for a portion of the third, albeit with a few stitches above his left eye.
Spezza added the insurance goal midway through the third.
Sens goalie Brian Elliot had a slow night — he turned away seven of eight Tampa Bay shots for the win. That may have been due to the fact that the Lightning were without offensive threats Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis while the Senators iced the usual suspects besides missing captain Daniel Alfredsson.
St. Louis said he was happy with how his team performed.
"We had a lot of young guys in the lineup. Obviously Ottawa had pretty much their A-squad. I thought our kids played pretty well."
Nittymakki and Riku Helenius split goaltending duties for the Lightning.
Ottawa (2-3) heads home to face Boston on Friday while Tampa Bay (1-1-1) matches up against Phoenix on Tuesday.
