Financial terms of the one-year contract were not disclosed.
Pyatt, 28, posted 10 goals and nine assists for 19 points in 69 games last season, his eighth in the NHL.
The Thunder Bay, Ont., native was granted a three-week leave of absence in April following the death of his fiancée Carly Bragnalo in a car crash in Jamaica, where she was vacationing.
They were to be married this summer.
Pyatt has totalled 91 goals and 191 points in 532 NHL games since he was drafted eighth overall by the New York Islanders in 1999.
He finished with 93 points, including 49 goals, in 224 games as a Canuck.
