Penguins get Craig Adams under contract

Solid defensive forward re-signs with Stanley Cup champs for 2 years

Last Updated: Monday, June 29, 2009 | 7:34 PM ET

The Stanley Cup champions might undergo a significant makeover during the summer, but a familiar face will be back skating on the fourth line come October.

Veteran forward Craig Adams re-signed with the Pittsburgh Penguins for two years on Monday.

The 32-year-old had three goals and two assists in 24 playoff games for the Penguins, who claimed Adams off waivers from Chicago on March 4.

Adams had two goals and six points in 36 games with Chicago.

The six-foot, 200-pound right-winger didn't fill the score sheet on a regular basis for the Penguins this season but Adams kills penalties, plays a solid two-way game and wins.

He helped the Carolina Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup final in 2002 and to a Cup title four years later.

Penguins forwards Bill Guerin, Ruslan Fedotenko, Petr Sykora and Miroslav Satan, defencemen Rob Scuderi, Hal Gill and Philippe Boucher and goalie Mathieu Garon can all become free agents on Wednesday when the NHL free-agent season begins.
