The Shawinigan Cataractes scored with just over five minutes left in the third period to set up Nicholas Petersen's goal late in the first overtime period for a 2-1 home victory over Drummondville on Sunday in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League final.
Petersen scored at 19:19 of overtime, putting the puck past Voltigeurs goalie Marco Cousineau after Cedric Lalonde-McNicoll tied the game with a power-play goal to force overtime in Game 6.
The deciding game of the best-of-seven series will take place Tuesday at Centre Marcel Dionne in Drummondville.
Yannick Riendeau scored his 27th goal of the playoffs midway through the second past Shawinigan netminder Gabriel Girard to open the scoring.
Riendeau tied a league record with his 16th power-play marker of the post-season.
The Voltigeurs lost just 14 times in 68 regular season games and won 12 straight to start the playoffs before encountering Shawinigan.
The QMJHL winner will join fellow league winners the Kelowna Rockets (WHL) and Windsor Spitfires (OHL), and host Rimouski Oceanic at the Memorial Cup. The tournament begins on Friday, with the champion to be determined on May 24.
