Tomas Kaberle's hopes to play in Saturday's game against Montreal were dashed when an X-ray revealed his injured right hand needed another week to heal.

Maple Leaf head coach Ron Wilson broke the news to reporters on Saturday, a day after the X-ray examination.

"It's not caution. He's not ready to play, so he'll be out probably until next Saturday," Wilson said.

Kaberle's missed the past eight games after reinjuring his right hand March 3 in a game against New Jersey. He's hoping to come back sooner than next Saturday.

"Obviously, we still have a little issue there and the doctor said it's not worth it to take the chance," Kaberle said. "The Tuesday game is three or four days away, so that's when we can look at it and hopefully play.

"I'm just hoping it's Tuesday. As long as I play before the end of the season, I'll feel good about it."

Kaberle missed 13 games when he initially broke his hand Jan. 29 in Colorado. He rushed back and played only one full game before reinjuring his hand.
