Beating out two Canadians, American Jessie Vetter has won the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award as the top player in NCAA women's hockey.

Vetter, a goaltender with the University of Wisconsin, was chosen top U.S. college player over a couple of Canadians: Mercyhurst sophomore Meghan Agosta of Ruthven, Ont., and Harvard senior Sarah Vaillancourt of Sherbrooke, Que.

Vetter won 31 games and had 13 shutouts on the season. She's not done yet either, as Wisconsin will play Minnesota Duluth in the NCAA championship game on Sunday.

"Jessie is the backbone of our team and without her, similar to our last three seasons, we wouldn't be where we are today," said Wisconsin coach Mark Johnson.

"She has certainly proven that she is not only the best goaltender at the collegiate level but internationally as well."

Overall, Vetter has 89 wins and 38 shutouts in her collegiate career.

Agosta was second in scoring for the entire NCAA this season in only her second season. She had 40 goals and 25 assists in 33 games.

Vaillancourt was close behind, with 26 goals and 36 assists in 34 games, good for fifth.
