Larssen/Associated Press)The Vancouver Canucks may look back at this week as the one that cost them any chance at the Northwest Division title, but the task at hand is avenging a loss to the Los Angeles Kings.
The Canucks and Kings will face off Friday for the second time in five nights.
With Calgary floundering earlier in the week, Vancouver (34-23-9) could have moved to within four points of the division lead.
But the Canucks gained just one out of a possible four points in Southern California and the Flames won on Thursday in Detroit, making the gap nine points. Vancouver has two games in hand on Calgary, with the clubs facing each other just once more this season.
Los Angeles beat the Canucks 3-2 on Monday, with Jarrett Stoll scoring a pair of power-play goals for the winners.
Vancouver followed that effort with a 4-3 overtime loss in Anaheim on Wednesday, disappointing their fans and several of the players' moms, who came along for the California trip.
Alex Burrows scored in both losses. Burrows has seven goals in the last nine games and reached the 20-goal mark for the first time in his career.
Daniel Sedin has notched an assist in each of the last five games, but brother Henrik is cold, going without a point in three straight games.
The Kings have won three consecutive games, but all have come at home. The club has lost four consecutive games on the road.
Teddy Purcell, who has split time with Los Angeles and its American Hockey League affiliate, is making the most of his latest call-up. Purcell has two goals and four assists during a five-game streak.
Kyle Quincey, picked up on waivers from Detroit early this season, now has 38 points after extending his point streak to four games in the victory.
Vancouver and Los Angeles will play once more, on April 9.
The Canucks next take to the ice Sunday, continuing their four-game homestand against Colorado.
