The NHL has slapped Los Angeles Kings defenceman Denis Gauthier with a two-game suspension.

The suspension, issued Saturday, resulted from Gauthier's actions in a 4-2 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.

Gauthier was assessed a minor penalty for boarding after making contact with Sharks' forward Patrick Marleau on an icing play at 10:14 of the third period. Marleau was not injured on the play.

Gauthier will miss games against the Phoenix Coyotes on Feb. 21 and the Minnesota Wild on Feb. 24. He will be eligible to return on Feb. 25 against the Philadelphia Flyers . He also forfeits $22,580.64 US in pay.

This is the second time Gauthier has been suspended this month.

The Kings blue-liner was barred five games on Feb. 2 for leaving his feet and delivering a hit to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenceman Josh Gorges.
