Goalie Cory Schneider, who got a taste of NHL life this season with the Vancouver Canucks, will be among the players taking to the ice in Monday's American Hockey League all-star game.

Schneider has played eight games with the Canucks this season, posting a 3.38 goals-against average. With Roberto Luongo back in the fold in Vancouver, Schneider was sent back to the Manitoba Moose in the AHL to work on his game.

Schneider has put up glistening numbers with the Moose — a 1.61 average and .940 save percentage in 19 games. He starred in Sunday's AHL skills competition, stopping 18 of 19 shots.

The Marblehead, Mass., native will play in nearby Worcester as the PlanetUSA squad takes on Canada in Monday's game.

Defencemen Cody Franson and Danny Syvret, former world juniors, will be representing Canada again. The Canadian squad also includes St. John's native Teddy Purcell, the all-star most valuable player last season.

In addition to Schneider, the American team also includes Jamie Sifers, who had a brief turn with the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, and Chris Bourque, son of NHL Hall of Famer Ray Bourque.

Brian Elliott was due to be a goalie for Canada, but he's up to stay for a while with the Ottawa Senators. He was replaced by Tyler Weiman.

Elliott was among a group of notable players who aren't playing because of injuries or call-ups to the NHL. They include Columbus Blue Jackets prospect Nikita Filatov, former Canadian world juniors Claude Giroux and Steve Downie, and Buffalo Sabres hopeful Nathan Gerbe.

Canada has beaten the U.S. team in six of the last eight matchups.
