Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby will sit out for the first time this season on Friday. (Keith Srakocic/Associated Press)Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby will miss Friday night's game with the Anaheim Ducks.
Crosby suffered a lower body injury after colliding with Capitals forward Dave Steckel with slightly more than four minutes left in regulation in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Washington. It has been reported as a left knee injury, but the Penguins have not been specific.
"I don't feel comfortable enough to play," Crosby told the team's website after Friday's practice. "It didn't feel good. That was the first time I skated since it happened. No go."
Crosby, who missed 29 games last season with a high ankle sprain, will be out of the lineup for the first time this season.
He recorded two assists in the loss to the Capitals and has 42 assists and 59 points, both totals second in the league to Evgeni Malkin.
Pittsburgh coach Michel Therrien said on Friday the Penguins will also be without forward Maxime Talbot and defencemen Kris Letang and Rob Scuderi due to various injuries.
