Things are going from bad to worse for the Ottawa Senators.

Mired in last place in the NHL's Eastern Conference, the winless-in-five Senators will be minus forwards Mike Fisher and Chris Neil for a minimum of two weeks.

Fisher, who is fifth in team scoring this season with six points in 16 games, strained a ligament in his right knee during Monday's 2-1 shootout loss to the New York Rangers.

"It definitely could have been a lot worse," said the 28-year-old Fisher, who won't need surgery. "I hope it'll be a case of a little bit of rest and a lot of therapy and I'll be back on the ice soon."

Neil, 29, suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee on Saturday in a loss to the New York Islanders and will undergo surgery.

The right-winger isn't expected to play for several weeks.

"It's disappointing," said Neil, who has two goals and three points in 17 contests this season. "[But the] bottom line is, it's early in the season. I can get it done with and get back in the lineup."

With a 6-9-3 record, Ottawa could use anyone it can get, starting Thursday against the visiting Montreal Canadiens.
