In a highly overdue move, it was announced on Friday that Bobby Orr's jersey would be retired by the Oshawa Generals.

The Generals will raise Orr's No. 2 jersey to the rafters in a ceremony on Nov. 27 before a game between Oshawa and the Peterborough Petes at General Motors Centre.

The Generals said in a statement that Orr, 60, will attend, along with family members and former teammates.

The Boston Bruins trumped other Original Six clubs to sign the Parry Sound, Ont., native, sending him to play for the Generals as a 14-year-old. He would go on to score 278 points in 194 games with the team.

The Generals were Ontario Hockey League champions in 1966, losing in the Memorial Cup game to the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Oshawa in March retired the No. 88 jersey of Eric Lindros, who helped lead the team to the 1990 Memorial Cup.
