Mats Sundin says he hopes to make a decision on his future sometime in August.

Speaking to a Sportsnet reporter while playing at Peter Forsberg's golf tournament in Ornskoldsvik, Sweden, Sundin said he still hasn't made up his mind on whether to play hockey this fall, and if he does, where that might be.

"I think sometime in August I hope to come to conclusion on what I'm going to do — if I'm going to play or not this year," the long-time Toronto Maple Leafs' captain said.

Sundin, now a free-agent, was firm on one subject — whoever said Aug. 1 was a deadline for a decision, it wasn't him.

"I never had a deadline. I know there was talk about the first of August, but I never said. I said sometime in August hopefully I'll be able to make a decision," he told Sportsnet.

"I won't make that until I really feel comfortable with making a good decision."

As for what team he might play for, Sundin —who had 78 points with the Leafs last season — said that isn't even on his mind right now.

"I'm just trying to bring my mind to a point where I can make a good decision whether or not I'm going to play hockey right now."

Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver are all interested in Sundin's services, the latter at an offered $10 million US a season.
