Blue Jackets fight off Flames in OT

Last Updated: Sunday, December 2, 2007 | 1:30 AM ET

In a battle of two struggling teams, winger Curtis Glencross scored the game-winning goal at 2:03 in overtime to give the Columbus Blue Jackets a 4-3 win against the Calgary Flames Saturday night.

Glencross, who also scored the first goal of the game, helped Columbus (12-10-4) to just its fourth win in the last 13 games.

After a simple dump-in by Columbus, centre Kris Beech raced deep inside the Calgary end and backhanded a pass to Glencross, who one-timed a shot behind goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff.

Beech also added a goal, while goaltender Fredrik Norrena finished with 33 saves.

The loss spoiled a productive night for offensive leader Jarome Iginla, who netted one goal and added his 700th career point with an assist on a third-period goal off the stick of defenceman Adrian Aucoin.

The Flames (10-13-4) have scored just seven times in dropping their last four games.

The normally reliable Kiprusoff struggled to find his game against the Blue Jackets and finished with 22 saves.

The Blue Jackets opened a 1-0 lead at 8:20 of the first period off the faceoff. Nikolai Zherdev snapped a quick shot that caught Kiprusoff by surprise.

Columbus then took a two-goal lead with less than one minute remaining in the first during a Flames breakdown, as Glencross converted a rebound behind Kiprusoff.

The Flames began their rally with a power-play goal at 9:05 of the second. Daymond Langkow tipped a shot by Aucoin between the legs of Norrena.

Iginla tied the game 2-2 more than six minutes later after batting the puck across the goal crease before the net dislodged.

Columbus regained its one-goal advantage at 4:07 of the third. With the Blue Jackets on the power play, Beech's attempted cross-ice pass was inadvertently redirected in by Calgary winger Alex Tanguay.

However, Columbus's lead lasted exactly 15 seconds as Aucoin's point-shot from the faceoff deflected off the leg of Blue Jackets defenceman Adam Foote and behind Norrena.
