The four-time all-star finished with 16 goals and 30 assists for 46 points in 62 games last season, his first in Denver.

Turgeon has totalled 511 goals and 1,320 points in 1,277 NHL games since being drafted first overall by the Buffalo Sabres in 1987.

The native of Rouyn, Que., also has played for the New York Islanders, Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues and Dallas Stars.

To make room for Turgeon on the roster, the Avalanche assigned forward Cody McCormick to the AHL Albany River Rats.
