Rules

November 28th 2009 to January 10th, 2010

1. TO ENTER

To enter the “Stories from the Rink, VIP Contest” (the “Contest”), you must visit cbcsports.ca/hockey and click on the Contest promo button or banner to link through to the Contest microsite.

Entrants will be invited to share their stories from the rink, up to two thousand (2,000) characters (approximately two hundred and eighty (280) words). Stories submitted should reflect this year’s Tim Hortons Hockey Day in Canada theme of ‘teamwork’ (hereinafter the “Story” or “Stories”). An example could be how teamwork contributed to success of their hockey team.

Each entrant must provide the following contact information on the registration form along with their submission: first and last name, age, home address, e-mail address and telephone number. If you do not have internet access via a personal computer, your local library or Internet café may be able to provide access to the Internet and a number of internet service providers and other companies offer free e-mail accounts.

There is a limit of one (1) entry per person, per e-mail address, per day in the Contest.. Only one valid e-mail address may be used to participate in the contest even if contestant owns or holds more than one e-mail address. Entries generated by script, macro, robotic, programming, or any other automated means are prohibited and will be disqualified. Any person attempting to participate more than once for the duration of the contest using such means will be eliminated and all entry forms received from this person will be declared inadmissible.

All Stories must be composed by and be the original work of the entrant, and must not violate the rights of any third party.

To be valid, all entries must be received by January 10th, 2010 at 11:59 pm (ET). The Contest microsite will remain active to receive entries until the Contest closes.

All entries become the property of the CBC and will not be acknowledged except as set forth herein. Entries may be used by the CBC for any purpose related to this Contest. By entering this Contest, entrant grants to CBC a a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free licence for all rights to the Story in any format and for all platforms and media whether now-known or to be discovered, including but not limited to the right to display the Story (or portions thereof) on television or online, and all promotional usage at CBC’s entire discretion.

The odds of winning a prize are directly related to the number of valid entries and the selection criteria.

2. ELIGIBILITY

Contest is open to all Canadian residents over the age of thirteen (13). Directors, officers and employees of CBC, Tim Hortons, and their affiliates, as well as their immediate family (father/mother, brother/sister, son/daughter) or persons living under the same roof with them are not eligible to enter this Contest. All entrants under the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entering the Contest must receive consent to participate in the Contest from their parents or legal guardians.

3. PROCEDURE FOR AWARDING PRIZES WEEKLY PRIZES

Six (6) stories in total will be selected as part of the Weekly Prizes. Winning weekly entries will be selected by a judging panel assembled by CBC. These stories will be judged based on a list of the following criteria:

  • Originality
  • Inclusion of ‘teamwork’ theme
  • Enthusiasm for the game of hockey

To be eligible for a Weekly Prize, entries must be received by 11:59 p.m (ET) on the day prior to the selection date. The selection dates are: December 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, 2009 and January 4th and 11th, 2010. Entries not selected each week remain eligible for the following weeks. There is a limit of one (1) Weekly Prize per person.

Each Weekly Winner will be contacted by telephone or e-mail within twenty-four (24) hours of his/her selection. If any selected winner cannot be contacted within forty-eight (48) hours of the date of the specific selection or, if contacted, does not claim his or her prize within three (3) days of the specific selection, or does not meet all of the Contest conditions, another winner will be selected from all remaining eligible entries.

GRAND PRIZE

On January 13th, 2010, one (1) story will be selected from the six (6) pre-selected weekly winning entries. These stories will be judged according to the same criteria as those for Weekly Winners.. The selection will be held from approximately 10:01am on January 13th, 2010. The eligible Grand Prize Winner will be contacted by telephone and/or e-mail within forty-eight (48) hours of the selection. If the selected Grand Prize Winner cannot be contacted within two (2) days from January 13th, 2010 or if contacted does not claim his or her prize within one (1) week from January 13th, 2010, or does not meet all of the Contest conditions, another winner will be selected from the remaining five (5) eligible entries.

4. DESCRIPTION OF PRIZES WEEKLY PRIZES

Six (6) Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada prize packs, consisting of:

  • One (1) $100 Tim Card
  • One (1) Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada toque (approximate retail value of $25)
  • One (1) Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada long-sleeve tee (approximate retail value of $25)

Approximate value of each Weekly Prize is $150.

GRAND PRIZE

There is one (1) Grand Prize VIP Experience available to be won, consisting of a trip for a family of four (4) to Stratford, Ontario. Prizing also includes: tickets to an exclusive banquet, behind the scenes access to the Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada production. The trip includes:

  • Roundtrip (airport to airport) airfare (economy class) for four (4) on the following dates:
    • Departure Date: Friday January 29th, 2010
    • Return Date: Sunday January 31st, 2010
  • Two (2) nights hotel accommodation (double occupancy)
  • One (1) rental car for the duration of prize fulfillment
  • $500 spending cash
  • Four (4) tickets to the exclusive Tim Horton’s Hockey day banquet
  • Four (4) Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada hooded sweatshirts
  • Four (4) Limited Edition Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada toques (with string)
  • One (1) Tim Hortons-Hockey Day in Canada jersey

All other expenses, and more specifically but not restrictively all means of transportation other than by airplane, all meals and refreshments, airport tax, personal and incidental expenses, travel and medical insurance, tips and gratuities, and all proper travel documentation are the responsibility of the winner and his/her three (3) family members. No compensation or alternative prize will be offered if trip is cancelled for failure to obtain proper travel documents.

NOTE: Certain travel restrictions apply. Travel must be taken as specified by the CBC and is subject to availability. All travelers must depart from and return to the same city. A valid credit card (or cash deposit, as set out by the hotel) will be required at hotel check-in. The Grand Prize VIP Experience package is for the winning person and his/her three (3) family members of his/her choice. If Grand Prize Winner is not available to travel on the dates specified above, the prize shall be considered to be forfeited by winner and CBC may, at its entire discretion, select another Grand Prize Winner.

Approximate value of Grand Prize is: $12,000

Note: This value is based on the assumption that the VIP winner’s (and guests) airfare could be that of one flying across the country (Canada).

5. GENERAL RULES

5.1 Winner of the Grand Prize, as well as the invitees, or their parents or guardians if the winner and/or the people accompanying him/her are minors, shall agree, if necessary, to have their name and/or picture, including their photograph, and/or their voices used for advertising purposes related to this Contest, free of charge.

5.2 Winners, or their parents or guardians if they are minors, shall sign a document attesting to their eligibility as stipulated in paragraph 2 of these rules and releasing CBC, Tim Hortons, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from participation in this Contest or from the awarding, acceptance or use of the prize.

Anyone accompanying the winner in connection with the Grand Prize “Stories from the Rink VIP Experience” or if the accompanying person is a minor, the parents or guardians of anyone accompanying the winner in connection with the prize, shall sign a document releasing CBC, Tim Hortons, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, from all liability for any damage or loss arising from use of the prize.

5.3 Each prize shall be accepted “as is” and may not be exchanged for an amount of money, nor sold nor transferred. No substitutions will be allowed.

5.4 If the prize cannot be awarded as described in these rules, CBC, Tim Hortons, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, reserve the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable value.

5.5 Refusal to accept the prize releases CBC, Tim Hortons, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, of any responsibility and obligation toward the winner.

5.6 Should any entrant make any false statement, he/she shall be automatically disqualified from the Contest.

5.7 CBC, Tim Hortons, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability resulting from losses, delays, mistaken addresses on mail or e-mail received, typographical errors, technical, computer or telephone malfunctions, loss or theft of computer or telephone data, damage to software or computer equipment, fraudulent calls or any other mistake.

5.8 CBC, Tim Hortons, their affiliates, as well as their respective directors, officers and employees, shall assume no liability whatsoever for any situation in which their inability to act results from an event or situation unforeseeable or beyond their control, including a strike, lockout or any other labour dispute at their location or the locations of the organizations and businesses whose services are used to hold this Contest

5.9 All personal information, such as first and last name, address, telephone number, e-mail address and age is collected solely for the purposes of administering this Contest and shall not be used for any other purpose without consent.

5.10 By entering this Contest, entrants agree to abide by the Contest rules which shall be applied by the CBC. All its decisions are final.
