      • Gritty Flyers sacrificed plenty

One of the more enlightening remarks during the Devils-Flyers series came between games when Marty Brodeur said he thought the Flyers weren't very physical.
      • Flyers full value for series victory

They didn't have Jeff Carter or Simon Gagne and most people didn't give the Philadelphia Flyers much chance of beating the New Jersey Devils even if they had been in the lineup anyway. So what happens? The Flyers shut out the Devils 3-0 to win their conference quarter-final series in five games.

      • Devils have no room for error

The Flyers will have two new faces in the lineup tonight for the first time in the series as the Flyers try to knock out the Devils with a 3-1 series lead.

      • Injuries hit Flyers hard

Just when you think it's safe for Flyer fans to smile, relax and breathe a little easier after a 4-1 rout in Game 4, disaster strikes Flyerdom.
      • Gagne suffers broken toe: Sources

Simon Gagne suffered a broken toe, according to sources, blocking two shots in the second period. He had an x-ray after the game and will undergo further testing on Wednesday, and while the Flyers would not release details, the expression on the face of general manager Paul Holmgren wasn't very positive.

      GF: 222 GA: 191
      PP: 18.7% PK: 82.8%

      Strengths Weaknesses Key Player

If defence, as the old saw goes, wins championships, then New Jersey is a contender. With Jacques Lemaire back behind the bench, the Devils gave up the fewest goals in the NHL and the second-fewest shots. They also allowed the fewest shorthanded chances, a testament to their exceptional discipline.

      Strengths Weaknesses Key Player

Philly is always an intimidating place to play (ask Tie Domi), the power play is really good, and the Flyers are pretty good at limiting their shots against. Good thing, because injuries havce forced them to rely on (gulp) journeyman Brian Boucher to get them through a tough first-round matchup.
