    They didn't have Jeff Carter or Simon Gagne and most people didn't give the Philadelphia Flyers much chance of beating the New Jersey Devils even if they had been in the lineup anyway. So what happens? The Flyers shut out the Devils 3-0 to win their conference quarter-final series in five games.

    Simon Gagne suffered a broken toe, according to sources, blocking two shots in the second period. He had an x-ray after the game and will undergo further testing on Wednesday, and while the Flyers would not release details, the expression on the face of general manager Paul Holmgren wasn't very positive.
