Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will get a taste of NHL competition before flying home to Sweden for an exhibition match.

The Senators will kick off the NHL pre-season Sept. 20 when they host the New York Rangers prior to facing Frolunda on Oct. 2 in Gothenburg, Alfredsson's hometown.

Alfredsson and company will remain in Sweden to open the regular season with a pair of games Oct. 4 and 5 against the Pittsburgh Penguins in Stockholm.

The people of Roberval, Que., winners of the Canada-wide Kraft Hockeyville contest, will celebrate the grand prize when the Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres play a pre-season game in their community Sept. 23.

Other non-NHL Canadian markets that will host exhibition games include Halifax (Boston vs. Montreal, Sept. 22 and Boston vs. Detroit, Sept. 25); London, Ont. (N.Y. Islanders vs. Philadelphia, Sept. 25); Moncton, N.B. (Boston vs. N.Y. Islanders, Sept. 23); Summerside, P.E.I. (Florida vs. N.Y. Islanders, Sept. 27); and Winnipeg (Calgary vs. Phoenix, Sept. 24).
