The Buffalo Sabres are expected to be without Daniel Briere for the next six-to-eight weeks after the star centre underwent abdominal surgery Thursday in Montreal
"I think it went well," Briere told the Canadian Press on Friday. "I saw the doctors again this morning and they both told me that it looked good.
"Right now it's a tough time, but at the same time I'm on the upswing. It's recovery time. And I'm happy we finally found out what was wrong and I can look forward to coming back on the ice."
Briere last suited up for the Sabres in a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh on Dec. 17.
The 28-year-old native of Gatineau, Que., is seventh in team scoring with 23 points (14 goals, nine assists) despite playing in only 24 games this season.
Before his injury, Briere played in 117 consecutive contests, and had missed just four games in three NHL seasons.
