Scott Nichol of the Nashville Predators will be out of the lineup for at least the first round after breaking his thumb on Thursday night.
Nichol suffered the injury in the team's 3-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 of the Western Conference quarter-final. The next game of the series takes place on Saturday afternoon in Detroit.
Nichol had 10 goals and eight assists in 77 games this season, with two short-handed goals and a plus-12 rating.
"Scotty is an all-purpose guy for us," Nashville coach Barry Trotz said. "He's strong on the draw, he's a top penalty killer and he's one of the leaders.
"We're going to miss him, but we've missed a lot of players over the last year or so. We just have to find another way to get things done."
Trotz said David Legwand, who has been out since early March with a broken foot, will be a game-time decision on Saturday afternoon.
The Predators are also considering calling up Josh Langfeld or Antti Pihlstrom from their Milwaukee affiliate in the American Hockey League to bolster the forward corps.
