The Pittsburgh Penguins assigned winger Mark Recchi to their American Hockey League affiliate on Thursday.
The move comes one day after the veteran forward cleared waivers.
Recchi, who is earning $1.75 million US this season, is now a member of the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.
Recchi, 39, had been a healthy scratch in eight of the last nine games, and did not accompany Pittsburgh on its current road trip through Western Canada.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion and Kamloops, B.C., native has two goals and eight points in 19 games this season.
Recchi has 510 goals and 1,341 points in 1,357 career NHL regular-season games for the Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, Montreal Canadiens and Carolina Hurricanes.
Recchi was drafted in the fourth round (67th overall) by Pittsburgh in 1988 NHL draft.
