The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Thursday that stalwart defenceman Brooks Orpik will be out approximately four to six weeks due to a broken finger.

Orpik suffered the injury on his right hand in overtime of the team's 3-2 loss Wednesday against San Jose.

Orpik, , is the latest to go down on a club beset by injuries. Sidney Crosby is not expected back anytime soon due to a concussion and Evgeni Malkin has been lost for the season after tearing knee ligaments. Also out of the lineup against San Jose on Wednesday:  Defencemen Mark Letestu (left knee) and Paul Martin (undisclosed injury), and forwards Chris Kunitz (lower body) and Arron Asham (concussion).

The Penguins begin a five-game road trip on Friday in Carolina, visiting Toronto for a Hockey Night in Canada matchup on Saturday (CBC, CBCSports.ca, 6:30 p.m. ET).
