Devils forward posted 6 points in 5-game series loss to Rangers

Perhaps still smarting from the New Jersey Devils' first-round playoff exit, forward Patrik Elias will take a few days before joining the Czech national team for the upcoming world hockey championship.

Czech Republic is training in Montreal in preparation for the tournament, which runs May 2-18 in Halifax and Quebec City.

Elias had 20 goals and 35 assists in the regular season and another six points in the playoffs.

New Jersey fell 4-1 in a best-of-seven NHL Eastern Conference quarter-final.

Elias was also a member of the Czech team at the 2002 and 2006 Olympics.

So far, the Czechs have 11 NHL players on the roster, including forwards Radim Vrbata of the Phoenix Coyotes, Ales Kotalik of the Buffalo Sabres and Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Tomas Kaberle.

The Czech Republic plays its first game on May 2 against Denmark in Quebec City.

The gold medal game will take place May 18 at the Pepsi Colisee.
