Quick fire shooting drill

Purpose:
Players work on quick release shooting from all areas of the offensive zone.
  • Players line up in one corner with pucks
  • x1 starts skating backwards while carrying the puck
  • x1 makes a pass to the next player in line, x2
  • x2 fires a pass back to x1, who is still skating backwards
  • x1 carries the puck around the neutral zone dot and transitions to skating forwards
  • As soon as x1 crosses the blueline, he/she fires a shot on net
  • x1 continues to the net and gets another quick pass from x2 for a one-timer
  • x1 transitions to backwards skating and gets another pass from x2
  • x1 carries the puck backwards around the other neutral zone dot, transitions and takes another shot on net after crossing the blueline
  • x1 skates hard to the net for another one-timer on the goalie
  • x2 now becomes the shooter and the next player in line is the passer
  • Run the drill out of both ends
  • Encourage communication and heads up passing and shooting.
