Continuous backcheck drill

Purpose: Instills defensive responsibility, teaches players to skate back hard after they've had a scoring chance.
  • Players line up in opposite corners with pucks
  • x1 starts the drill by carrying the puck down the ice for a shot on net
  • As soon as x1 takes a shot, x2 leaves, carrying a puck
  • x1 peels off and heads down the ice, backchecking as x2 takes a shot on net
  • As soon as x2 shoots, x3 takes off down the ice for a shot on net, as x2 backchecks
  • Drill continues non-stop this way
  • If a player is caught by the backchecker, he/she continues skating down the ice and begins backchecking when the next shooter leaves.
