Competition 1-on1

Purpose:
This race for the puck mimics game situations; players work on quick starts and stops to get to the puck first.
  • Two lines at the red line
  • Coach stands below the centre ice circle with pucks
  • Two pylons in front of the coach at the blueline
  • Coach blows the whistle to start the drill
  • First player in each line (x1 and x2) bolts out towards the blueline
  • Players stop at the pylon in front of them
  • Coach floats a light pass towards the net
  • x1 and x2 race to the puck
  • Whoever gets to the puck first is on offense, the other player is backchecking and trying to steal the puck away
  • Offensive player tries to get a shot on net
  • Drill continues this way; it can be run out of both ends.
