Thrashers game-day drill

Purpose:
Gets the legs moving, warms up the goalies, gets players passing, skating and shooting.
  • Goalies in both nets
  • Four lines of players on face-off dots in either end
  • Pucks with one line at each end
  • x1 makes the first pass to the goalie and curls out to the hashmarks to get the pass back
  • After x1 makes the pass, x2 also curls out to the hashmarks to get ready for the pass back
  • The goalie makes a pass to either x1 or x2 (a variation on the pass will see the goalie ring the puck around the boards, or shoot it off the glass up to the winger)
  • As seen above, x1 picks up the pass and skates up ice, making a pass to x2, who is streaking through the middle
  • x1 and x2 continue passing and go in for a 2-on-0 on G2
  • The drill continues out of the other end of the ice, with x4 making the pass to G2 and x3 and x4 getting ready for a pass on the hashmarks from G2, then heading down the ice for a 2-on-0
  • Other variations will see the players cross in the middle of the ice before entering the offensive zone, or make several quick passes before a shot on net.
Our Game got this drill from an Atlanta Thrashers morning practice in preparation for a game
that night.
