Nazem Kadri is doing everything in his power to prove he belongs in the NHL.
The Maple Leafs forward scored his first career hat trick in
Toronto's 5-4 overtime win over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.
His first goal of the night came in the first period, when he used a cheeky toe drag and then ripped a wrist shot past Islanders goalie Evgeni Nabokov.
He followed that up midway through the second period when a wrister just inside the blue-line looked like it fooled Nabokov to beat the goalie on his glove side.
But that wasn't enough for the six-foot, 188-pound forward. He completed the hat trick six minutes later when he eluded the Islanders' defence with some nifty stick-handling and found the back of the net.
The 22-year-old London, Ont. native now has three goals and four assists in his last four games and leads the team with 21 points.
