As we move into the second month of the NHL lockout, CBCSports.ca has been helping give fans a voice.
Until the game we love returns, we will continue to highlight one fan's take on the lockout each day from the posts we've received on Facebook, Twitter and the comments sections on CBCSports.ca.
Here is Wednesday's fan's comment of the day via CBCSports.ca user fllexa."So apparently initial reaction from NHLPA membership has not been overwhelmingly favorable. The 50/50 split is being characterized as a further reduction in salaries from the last agreement. Well from a fan who loves the game I'll say to the players - most of you are overpaid to begin with. If you don't like your cut renegotiate your percentages with your agents and entourage. To me 50/50 seems more than reasonable to be compensated for playing a game - doing your 10+ years and moving off to another career post hockey in your mid to late 30s. Like exactly how much do you need to make in a decade long hockey career - enough to maintain your "rock star" lifestyles after hockey to me seems ridiculous. After hockey go get a real job like the rest of us. You should already be miles ahead of us fans if you were smart with your money. To the ownership - it makes no sense to me how you can be a collective yet be in direct competition with each other. You own the Coyotes yet Doan is given the ridiculous contract in his twilight. The Luongo, DiPietro, and Daigle deals were all by your hands yet you complain. To both sides - keep up with this foolishness and I'll go watch Junior hockey where they haven't seemed to forget about "the game!"
