NHLNHL lockout Day 4: Fan's Comment of the Day

With an NHL lockout now a reality, CBCSports.ca not only wants to help guide you through the labour rhetoric, but we also want you to have a voice.

So until the game we love returns, we will highlight one fan's take on the labour dispute in the NHL each day.

Here's Wednesday's comment from a CBCSports.ca user who goes by the handle TJTHEDJvan:

"What I actually am much more disturbed with each time there is a work stoppage in the NHL is the number of players that go and sign wit another league to play in when they are still basically under contract to an NHL team.

Now it would be a disaster if they were to be injured while playing in this other league during this period but what I really think needs to happen is for there to be a clause in the new CBA that prohibits any player from signing with another league when they still have a contract with an NHL team. If they decide to do so then there current contract becomes Null and Void and they are penalized by being reclassified as any other entry level player and can only sign a new deal for the same as all other entry level players (except for having some concessions for years of service and age).

There could be a set amount that each additional year of service allows them to be paid for but the bottom line is that they would not be able to just run to another league without having some sort of repercussions for doing so."
