Referee Kelly Sutherland had to be helped off the ice of the First Niagara Center in Buffalo on Wednesday 5:37 into the Rangers-Sabres tilt after a slap shot from Jordan Leopold deflected off a Rangers player into the ref's mug.
(Sutherland left the game, and the game continued with one referee and two linesmen for the remainder of the game, a
1-0 shootout win by the Rangers.)
The issue:While wearing the stripes may preclude you from having to wear a full set of gear, does an incident like this make you think referees should be the first to jump on the 'mandatory visor' bandwagon?
Or is it an inalienable right to have an unobstructed view of the ice (even if your face could be turned into hamburger)?
