pugnacious play, included amongst this was a moment that resulted in the Ottawa Senators'
Nick Foligno spending two minutes in the penalty box after a
hit on Maple Leafs' captain Dion Phaneuf.
The question: Was the Foligno hit clipping, was it a hip check, and was it 'dirty?' Discuss.
The latest installment of the Battle of Ontario had its fair share of pugnacious play, including one particular moment that resulted in the Senators' Nick Foligno spending two minutes in the penalty box after a hit on Maple Leafs' captain Dion Phaneuf:
Phaneuf left the game and headed to the dressing room after the hit, but returned later so he and Foligno could throw hands at one another.
Rule 44 states that "Clipping is the act of throwing the body, from any direction, across or below the knees of an opponent. A player may not deliver a check in a 'clipping' manner nor lower his own body position to deliver a check on or below an opponent's knees."
