Philadelphia Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo has been suspended for eight games Monday for charging and boarding Pittsburgh Penguins defenceman Kris Letang last week, the league announced.

At 15:36 of the first period last Tuesday, Rinaldo was ejected following a questionable hit on Letang.

The 24-year-old received a five-minute major and a game misconduct for the hit from behind on Letang. He was also penalized earlier in the game for cross-checking.

Letang stayed down on the ice, but was able to eventually skate off with a member of the training staff.

Rinaldo is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the CBA. Based on his average annual salary, he will forfeit $73,170.72 US of his salary.

Letang did practice on Monday and could play Tuesday against the Winnipeg Jets.
