It was a double shot of excellent news on Tuesday for one of the NHL's good guys, Adam Oates.
After some strong work as an assistant with the surprising New Jersey Devils, Oates got his first NHL head coaching assigment with the Washington Capitals.
Just a couple of hours later, the Hockey Hall of Fame Committee confirmed that he will be enshrined, along with three other hockey greats, for a career that put him sixth all-time in assists.
There were other deserving hockey people who did not get the call, and Oates could no doubt empathize. He waited five years before gaining acceptance.
Not content to settle for a lame Hall and Oates joke, we've taken it one step further with the above picture book to commemorate June 26, 2012 — Adam Oates Day.
As you will see, the guy just makes plays.
