Montreal Canadiens coach Jacques Martin told reporters Tuesday that veterans Mike Cammalleri and Jaroslav Spacek will be out of the lineup for the next few games at least.
Cammalleri suffered a laceration on his leg in the team's 5-1 road win over the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday. He had scored the opening goal for the Canadiens.
Martin estimated the forward will be out 10 to 14 days.
"It’s just a question of giving the cut enough time to heal," Martin was quoted on the team's website. "Luckily there’s no damage to the muscles, nerves or tendons, but it was still a deep cut. Our doctors will re-evaluate the injury on Saturday,”
Spacek, who also departed early from the Jets game, will be out between two to three weeks, the coach said. The team says the 37-year-old has an "upper body injury."
The team lost blue-liner Chris Campoli for what is believed to be a period of months in the opening game last week against Toronto.
Defenceman Andrei Markov has yet to play this season after suffering a season-ending knee injury early in 2010-11.
The Habs play the next three games at home, beginning Thursday against Calgary.
