Stars' Jamie Benn faces fine hearing Saturday for cross-checking
Incident occurred Thursday night vs. Edmonton Oilers
Jamie Benn will be forced to answer for a cross-checking incident against the Edmonton Oilers Thursday night.
The Dallas Stars forward will have a fine hearing with the NHL on Saturday, stemming from a late-game infraction involving Edmonton's Ryan Jones.
The incident occurred with four minutes left in the third period of the Oilers' 5-1 win, when Benn levelled Jones with a cross-check from behind, sending the Edmonton winger to the ice and in visible pain.
A little while earlier, Jones had gotten tangled up with Stars goalie Kari Lehtonen in the netminder's crease. Benn left the bench and delivered the blindside cross-check not long after.
He received a major penalty and a game misconduct for the infraction.
According to terms of the collective bargaining agreement, any fine that might exceed $5,000 US must have a hearing.
Benn has six goals and eight assists in 16 games so far this year.
