Ron MacLean says while he remains optimistic that the NHL season will be saved, the owners and players are currently locked in a "dogfight."

The Hockey Night In Canada host appeared on CBC News Network on Friday morning to chat a day after the league — which locked out players on Sept. 15 — effectively axed two weeks of the season.

While MacLean said he said he may have been a bit too optimistic leading up to the lockout, he believes that the players' association and owners will come to some type of agreement before the season is lost.

MacLean also appeared on CBC Radio's Metro Morning in Toronto and spoke with Matt Galloway. For that full interview, click here.
