The Detroit Red Wings added some depth up front by recalling Finish forward Ville Leino from the American Hockey League on Wednesday.

The move came one day before the Red Wings begin defence of their Stanley Cup title by hosting the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series.

Leino, 25, scored five goals and had nine points in 13 games for the Red Wings this season.

He also had 15 goals and 46 points in 57 games in the AHL with the Grand Rapids Griffins.
