Wisniewski was injured when he was struck by a shot during Sunday's game against the Chicago Blackhawks. He had three goals (all on the power play) and six assists in 15 games this season. The 29-year-old had picked up a point in eight of his last nine games prior to being hurt.
The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that Wisniewski is awaiting the birth of a child.
Wisniewski, who tied the game at 1 with a first-period goal Saturday night, was chasing the puck with teammate Nick Foligno. Detroit's Justin Abdelkader appeared to make contact with Foligno, who then bumped into Wisniewski. Wisniewski spun around and landed hard against the boards.
