NHL trade deadline: Players 'in play'

As the NHL's March 5 trade deadline nears, teams looking to upgrade for the stretch run many consider acquiring some of these players.

Big-name players potentially on the move before March 5

With the NHL's March 5 trade deadline drawing near, teams looking to upgrade down the stretch have many options remaining.

In particular, there is a surplus of forwards available, including a likely Hall of Famer and a pair of goal-scoring wingers who have already changed teams this season.

The league will initiate a roster freeze on Feb. 7 at 3 p.m. ET to coincide with the Sochi Olympics. The moratorium will be lifted at 11:59 p.m. ET on Feb. 23, leaving general managers 10 days to improve their clubs.

The gallery above features some of the players who could be on the move before the final trade cutoff.
