Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul named NHL's 1st star

Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Joffrey Lupul was named the NHL's best player for last week after racking up five goals and four assists in four games.
Lupul now has a six-game point streak since returning from injury, with eight goals and five assists in nine games so far this season. He scored the game-winning goal in all three of Toronto's wins for the week ending March 31.
Antti Niemi of San Jose was named second star of the week after going a perfect 4-0 during the week, with shutouts over Anaheim and Detroit. He posted a 1.22 goals-against average and .952 save percentage overall.
Edmonton forward Taylor Hall rounded out the list by tying Lupul with an NHL-best five goals on the week, to go along with three assists. He wrapped up the week by scoring a hat trick in seven minutes, 53 seconds, breaking the franchise record held by legend Wayne Gretzky.
The NHL also announced its players of the month for March. They are:
- Sidney Crosby led all NHL players in March with 19 assists and 25 points as Pittsburgh went a perfect 15-0 during the month
- P.K. Subban of Montreal led all league defenceman with seven goals, 11 assists as the Habs solidified their division lead
- Columbus goalie Sergei Bobrovsky vaulted the also-ran Blue Jackets into playoff contention with three shutouts, a .950 save percentage and 1.49 goals-against average
