The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Thursday that centre Vincent Lecavalier will go on injured reserve with a lower body injury.
The veteran is out indefinitely due to an injury suffered in the team's 3-2 win Tuesday over Florida. His roster spot in the short term will be taken by Tyler Johnson, who has 32 goals and 26 assists in 59 AHL games with the Norfolk Admirals.
Lecavalier has seven goals and 15 assists in 26 games in his 14th season with the Lightning since being selected No. 1 overall in the 1998 draft. He played in his 1,000th career game early in the season.
He's won more face-offs than all but five NHL players, with an impressive win percentage of 54.8.
Tampa Bay, 11th in the East, hosts the New York Islanders on Thursday.
